Oh my god. I can’t even put into words how much I adored this series. To put it into perspective, I’ve read this series three times since I first read it in April. THREE TIMES. And, not gonna lie, I’m feeling a reread here very soon. The first book is free on Kindle, and the last two books $0.99. It has all the trigger warnings, so tread carefully, but there are no characters you’ll love more than these precious babies. I’ve never read anything like these books, so of course, they were the clear winner when it comes to a read that’s “fresh” and “new.” That’s this series to a T! I can’t say anything else, because that would be spoiler-y, but it’s. so. good. I cannot promote enough! (Goodreads | Amazon)

Howling Winds

An ending that blew me away

Beard with Me by Penny Reid Cover to Cover Book Blog Kat Snark covertocoverlit Book Blogger Book blog reader reading SmartyPants Romance Smart Romance Scarlet St. Claire Clair Billy Winston Winston Brothers Green Valley Pennyverse origin story childhood romance age difference homeless motorcycle club childhood abuse Literary Fiction Epic Love Story

Beard with Me was the origin story to Beard Necessities (which I talk about below, as yet to be released), so I knew going in that I was going to have to deal with a probable cliffhanger. And man was I not emotionally prepared for this story. I read it curled up in a complete little ball in bed, mentally sobbing through the whole thing. It was a so sweet and angsty and emotional and so so so sweet I was majorly struggling. Thank goodness my roommate wasn’t in, because I was being kind of pathetic, I have to admit. (My Review)

Leaf Fight

A book with non-stop action

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews on Cover to Cover Book and Blogging Blog by Kat Snark Kate Daniels Magic Urban Fantasy Paranormal Romance Sword Fierce Female Vampire shifter changeling slow burn romance

Plenty of contenders for this one, but after I got the Hamilton song out of my head, my first thought was of Kate Daniels. That poor child, this series, and her life is relentlessIt just never ends! She drags herself (often scratched and bloody) home and out again, and it’s an amazing story, one of my absolute favorites. Kate Daniels herself is whit-sharp intelligent, a complete badass, and is at heart, a survivor. But she’s also got too big of a heart to put her survival above the lives of others if she can help them, which she proves again and again over the course of the series. Did I mention this has an epic hate-to-love slow burn romance that plays around in the background? Mmm. (My Review)

Comfy Sweaters

A book that gave you warm and fuzzies

There are several I could go with for this one, but I’m going to go with Love Lessons by Heidi Cullinan, an easy choice because it was one of my favorite books of the year. The first time I read this one, I did so in one complete sitting (and sacrificed so much sleep and love for this book. Then I did that same thing again two months later ??

It’s the perfect encapsulation for being in college, with first love, with so much feeling and emotion and so realisticThe emotions just pour out of the book. Oh, I can’t. Just reading about this is making me hanker for a reread. It’s the best kind of boy-meets-boy, and I just melted. And did I mention? They were roommates! Oh thinking about this makes me giddy all over again! (Goodreads | Amazon)

Bright Colors

A cover with either red, yellow or orange

Again, there are quite literally a million options for this one (including two right below). But the first book that came to mind was Ocean Light by Nalini Singh, which was a fantastic book. I actually named it, per the Mid-Year Freakout Tag, as the best sequel I’d read at the beginning of this year. And I haven’t taken an official look yet… but I think it still holds that spot! It was just another perfect example of Ms. Singh’s stunning world-building skills, amazingly dynamic side characters, and stunning writing style. Her characters and writing are always so evocative, that I just can’t help but curl up in a ball and let her take me along for the ride.

Not to mention, this book took place underwater pretty much the whole time, which was very impressive. As it took place in an unusual place, it had that small-town, small-but-very-involved-community-with-large-and-loving-hearts feeling that I adore. It was, simply put, a very sweet and innocent and fresh enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfection.  (Review of first book)

Pumpkin Spice

Your most anticipated read

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater – This is the book I’ve been anticipating ever since 2016 when I first read The Raven Boys (I think I have that date right). If you’ve read The Raven Boys, you know all about the gang: Gansey, Noah, Blue, Adam Parrish, and Ronan Lynch. This series is all about Ronan Lynch and his strange ability!!! !!! !!! This is it, guys!! This is where Pynch finally becomes a thing ?✨ Ronan was always my very favorite character of The Raven Boys series, and I cannot wait. Ms. Stiefvater’s writing in that series was a dream, and I really can’t wait to be there again! And isn’t the paperback cover glorious??? (Goodreads | Amazon)

Beard Necessities by Penny Reid – YOOOOO. I just read Beard with Me by Penny Reid, which is the origin story for Scarlett/Claire and Billy Winston. I already know their second-chance love story is going to be INTENSE because their origin story with their childhood was intense! It completely took my breath away and I was sobbing for Scarlett and all she had to endure. God, her life sucked! Yet… it was beautiful and precious there for awhile with Billy. I already know this is going to be one of my favorite second-chance romances because the intensity of their connection and their story is already there. (Goodreads | Amazon)

Madness of Sunshine by Nalini Singh – This is possibly one of my most anticipated releases!! Ms. Singh is one of my absolutely most favorite of authors. She wrote the Psy-Changeling series and two contemporary series I love! She even has an urban fantasy (featuring angels) series that I haven’t gotten into yet, but this will be her first time delving into thriller and mystery territory. Based on the intricate plots in her Psy-Changeling books, I know she will be a fantastic mystery writer!!  Plus, do you know what’s better than a good thriller mystery / romantic suspense book? A small-town mystery thriller / romantic suspense book! *gimme gimme gimme* (Goodreads | Amazon)
