TBR // May 2020

Posted May 2, 2020 by Kate

hello, lovelies!

I read a total of 28 books in April, and I’m hoping to keep up the oomph for May! Since I’m facing three month-long readathons in June, July and August, I’m taking it easy with the TBR this year. It’s not set, but these are some books that I’m hoping to get to this month ✨ I like to have a place where I can look to find books I’ve already picked out for the month, even if I don’t have to read them, when I’m looking for something new.

A few series to catch up on…

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab Top Ten Tuesday Series I've Been Meaning to Start But Haven't on Cover to Cover book and Blogging blog by Kat Snark

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab – I read the first two books in this series ages ago and LOVED it!! Kell and his multi-dimensional, multi-pocketed coat and Lila’s adventurous spirit captured my heart! But I got distracted away before I could finish the trilogy, and years have passed. It’s time to catch up, wouldn’t you say? (Goodreads | Amazon)

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater on Cover to Cover Book and Blogging Blog by Kat Snarkf Top Nine Friends to Lovers Romances

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater – I love, love, love, love Gangsey! While I was a tad disappointed with The Raven King’s ultimate ending, the characters still are absolutely incredible, and I need to be reintegrated into the group before I dive head-first into Call Down the Hawk!  (Goodreads | Amazon)

Silver Borne and River Marked by Patricia Briggs – Book number five of the Mercy Thompson series, a fantastic urban fantasy mystery series! Check out my review for book one (and the rest) if you’re interested – it’s one of my favorites. The main character, Mercy, is a coyote shifter, and lives next door to the alpha of the local werewolf pack. Do sparks fly?? Oh honey, do they ever! (Goodreads | Amazon)

Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews – I need to continue in my Kate Daniels re-read along so that I can finally finish this beloved series ? This is one of my favorite series of all time, yet I wasn’t able to catch up with the new releases. Hence, I’m rereading and catching up now! (Goodreads | Amazon)

ARCs to read this month!

Batter of Whits by Karla Sorensen – All I really know about this one is that it features a hate-to-love romance! Which sounds amazing :) I loved the first book in this series by Karla Sorensen, so I’m anticipating good things for this one. (My Review)

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan – Again, I don’t really know much about this one! But I think she’s a non-royal and he is and … yum! (Goodreads | Amazon

Other books I’m planning on reading…

Dream Maker by Kristen Ashley – Kristen Ashley is a go-to for me, y’all know that by now. She’s an auto buy author to the extreme, so of course I’m going to get her newest release, and am eagerly anticipating the start of this new series!! An engineering student (and a hyper-intelligent one at that!) working at a strip club to put herself through school + overly protective bossy bad buy who’s damaged but puts on a funny-guy front? Hello, yes! Plus, it’s our first New Adult from KA! I’m already sold. (Goodreads | Amazon)

Lovewrecked by Karina Halle – A shipwrecked wedding party? Oh yes, this sounds fantastic. Especially considering the grump vs. sunshine trope that I’ve been promised!! I’m so excited for this one. (Goodreads | Kindle Unlimited

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater – This is the book I’ve been anticipating ever since 2016 when I first read The Raven Boys (I think I have that date right). If you’ve read The Raven Boys, you know all about the gang: Gansey, Noah, Blue, Adam Parrish, and Ronan Lynch. This series is all about Ronan Lynch and his strange ability!!! !!! !!! This is it guys!! This is where Pynch finally becomes a thing ?✨ Ronan was always my very favorite character of The Raven Boys series, and I cannot wait. Ms. Stiefvater’s writing in that series was a dream, and I really can’t wait to be there again! (And isn’t the paperback version glorious???) (Goodreads | Amazon)

Slayer by Kiersten White – I’ve never been a Buffy person, I’ve only seen a few odd episodes, but I definitely want to read this. Most important, aside from the fact they are vampire hunters, is the fact that this takes place in a magical boarding school where they learn to become Slayers. Magical boarding schools are my kryptonite, and I’m so ready! (Goodreads | Amazon)

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer – I don’t know much about this one, other than that it is highly loved, Harper and Rhen are the main characters, it’s a retelling of some kind and Harper has cerebral palsy. I’m so terrified to read this one, because it’s so highly hyped, but hopefully drawing it out of the TBR Jar will be the push I need!! (Goodreads | Amazon)

Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas – Considering the fact that I’m absolutely rabid to read any SJM release, it’s a bit shocking that I haven’t gotten to this one yet. However, it’s been recommended to me recently and I would love to pick this one up this month! I’m not familiar with any of the comic-book-stuff, but I’m intrigued enough to learn! (Goodreads | Amazon)

  1. The Shades of Magic series is amazing! I read book 2 and 3 in April and they were one of my favorites along with His Royal Highness and A Curse So Dark and Lonely ?

  2. Nice list of books, hope you have a great reading month. As for me, I recommend edenbrooke for past eaves (historical romance) in the romanceopoly. It is a good read and I’m currently enjoying it.

  3. LOVE The Raven Cycle! I really need to reread Darker Shade..CDTH was good, but it is very much focused on the Lynch’s, and not so much on anyone else!
