On My Shelf #1

Posted December 2, 2019 by Kate

hey, lovelies!

The other day, I threw up a Twitter post asking for numbers between 1-582 and didn’t specify why. Although this being the community is, everyone probably guessed ?? It’s to feature different books on my bookshelf!

I’ll talk about the book the number on my shelf correlates to. If I’ve read it, I’ll chat a little about the book. If I haven’t read it, then I’ll discuss why I haven’t read it, and why it was initially attractive to me, enough to buy it. Then, I’m going to pick a book from the list to read this month. I KNOW. Seems scary and not fun. TBR Jar’s never worked for me (although I love the idea and the aesthetic), so maybe this will be a fun way to help up my reading!

This is NOT an original feature idea. I claim absolutely no credit, so give credit where credit is due to the original creator Iain Broome, and I found out about it from Bee @ Vivatramp

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor – Okay… I definitely have not read this one yet. AND I NEED TO. I absolutely adored Strange the Dreamer and eagerly anticipated the release of the sequel. But… that was also a year ago next month and I’ve officially run out of excuses. Book one was so awesome because it was about a boy who loves books (and was super relatable in that regard), and a girl who lives and breathe’s nightmares. RIGHT?! I know, I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet either. (Amazon | Goodreads)

Red Rising by Pierce Brown – This series I should probably unhaul, because I really don’t have much of any intention to read it. I’ve heard it’s very similar to Red Queen (controversially so, although it may have been the other way around), and Red Queen didn’t really sell me. Have you read this book? Should I give it a try? (Amazon | Goodreads)

Blood Promise by Richelle MeadThis one just takes me back to my childhood for a moment. Rose and Dmitri?? What a duo. And Adrian?? Ahhhhh. This is making me want to go back and do a reread. If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, this is the (fourth?) book in the Vampire Academy series that was so much sassier, so much kick-assier and so much better than how the movie portrayed it. Rose was like an over-protective mother hen with ninja skills and it was really quite amazing. I’ll sell it to you in just a few words: Teenagers with powers and vampires in boarding school, featuring a mentorship romance. Ehhh?? (Amazon | Goodreads)

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare – I LOVE THIS SERIES. Did you see that The Clockwork Angel, book one, is having a special edition copy coming out? I caught sight of it on Amazon and immediately booted it to my wishlist. I actually like this series better than the City of Bones series, mainly because of Will Herondale ? (Amazon | Goodreads)

When the Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare – okay… shit. I didn’t remember how much I loved this book – and in all honestly, had kind of forgotten about it! It follows Maddie, who is agoraphobic and melts into a panic at the thought of the crowds and people and expectations that would be placed on her if she made her London debut. So she makes up a fictional beau and, in order to keep up the farce, mails him frequent letters, addressed to a Captain Logan Mackenzie. She writes these letters for five years before faking his death and mourning for an additional year. She imagines these letters sit abandoned somewhere, but nooooo. How shocked is she when a Captain Mackenzie shows up at her door? Oh my gosh, this book was so much fun. I need to go back and reread! (Amazon | Goodreads)

The Inquisition by Taran Matharu – This is a book I have not read ? I can’t really remember why, because I actually really enjoyed the first book in the series. Hmmmm. I may have to revisit this one. I remember there was a fun magical salamander?!  (Amazon | Goodreads)

The Wallflower Wager by Tessa DareThis one I have not read yet, but it does sound entirely adorable. It follows Gabriel “The Duke of Ruin” and “Beast Next Door” to Lady Penelope, who is always sheltering wounded animals. He wants them gone, and she agrees, only if he can find them good homes. How hard can it be? Well, for a cold-hearted bastard who’s never had a loving home, pretty damn hard. Soon, as the blurb says “he’s covered in cat hair, knee-deep in adorable, and bewitched by a shyly pretty spinster who defies his every attempt to resist.” Fun! I need to bump this one up the list! (My Review)

99 Percent Mine by Sally ThorneI low-key forgot I had this!! It sounds so cute <3 Basically Darcy and her twin inherit this tumble-down property, Darcy’s ready to fix it up to sell. Problem is, the contractor they hire to fix it up is her brothers best friend – the amazingly attractive Tom who is finally single again. Now, Darcy wants to stick around to make sure she gets a voice in the vision of the cottage – and probably a shirtless Tom, as well. It sounds like such a fun, flirty romp, why haven’t I picked this one up yet?? (Amazon | Goodreads)

Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh – Just so you’re aware, this is the first book in one of my favorite series ever, the Psy-Changeling series!!  Nalini Singh is also one of my most favorite authors. Whether it’s contemporary romance, urban fantasy or paranormal romance, she’s got it covered and has an amazing writing style and stunning world-building skills. Slave to Sensation is only the first book in the Psy-Changeling series, but in a series that gets better and better with each book, it’s not the strongest. But it’s still a fantastic enemies-to-lovers romance that is so!! much!! fun!! (My Review)

Now I have to read one of these books this month…

Look for the next installment of On My Shelf, where I’ll feature some new books and then discuss the book that I had to read this month! Let’s do this!! *BREAK!*

What are some books on your shelf you need to read? What are you currently reading? Are you going to join me in my challenge? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!
