What happens when the kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets?
All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree and take over his dad’s ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finally finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career.
What Blake and Amanda don’t want is to be paired up with each other for their final project but that’s exactly what they both get when they’re forced to collaborate on a writing piece. Since Amanda thinks Blake is a pushy asshole (with a panty-melting smirk and British accent) and Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass (though it’s brilliant ass), they fight tooth and nail until they discover they write well together. They also might find each other really attractive, but that’s neither here nor there.
When their writing project turns out to be a success, the two of them decide to start up a secret partnership together using a pen name, infiltrating the self-publishing market in the lucrative genre of erotica. Naturally, with so much heat and passion between the pages, it’s not long before their dirty words become a dirty reality. Sure, they still fight a lot but at least there’s make-up sex now.
But even as they start to fall hard for each other, will their burgeoning relationship survive if their scandalous secret is exposed or are happily-ever-afters just a work of fiction?
Honestly, this book was so much more fun than I expected – and I’d already read the book before. Chalk it up to my bad memory, sure, but I think it’s just because this book always catches me a bit off guard. I go in thinking “oh yeah, I remember really enjoying this my first read-through,” and then get sucked in for hours into this supposedly “fluffy romance.”
It may be a stereotypically fluffy romance, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Smut had my giggling all the way through this one, that’s for sure. Part of that is because it had one of my favorite tropes… a hate-to-love romance! Blake and Amanda share a college writing class together, and thoroughly despise each other. But when they get assigned as writing partners for their final project to write a novella… things heat up ???
Amanda thinks Blake is nothing more than a raunchy a man-whore who’s good between the sheets and not much else, while Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass and her snooty nose high in the clouds.
It’s pretty easy to tell that my classmate in writing 200 and my current writing partner, Amanda Newland, hates my bloody guts. Her obvious dislike of me has led to my dislike of her, and my dislike of her has led me, well, trying to get a rise out of her whenever I can.
Yet… yet. They both find out that they are amazingly compatible writing partners, and actually end up enjoying each other’s company, going so far as to become… kinda friends?! *gasp* But once their project gets turned in, they no longer have any excuses to see each other. Then Blake gets this amazing idea. Why don’t they sell some Smutty ebooks, and make some quick cash from that to kickstart their individual writing careers? Hers is a sweeping epic fantasy, and his with sci-fi horror books. Sounds easy, right?
Well, it kinda was for them. They wrote two books (maybe three), made it into the Amazon Top 100 List, and made bank off of both books. Was it realistic? Maybe not. But it certainly was fun to watch two people repressing their attraction and sexual tension for each other attempt to write kinky scenes sitting right next to each other. Again ??? This book had me giggling aloud several times, and honestly it was so much fun.
This one does require a bit of a suspension on reality, but honestly the story and the dialogue was so fun, I swept right through it. It’s only now that I’m writing about it that I’m thinking “hmmm…”
Honestly, there’s not much else to it! I found this one actually well written, it was fun, flirty, funny and a great distraction for the afternoon, with a surprising amount of depth. It was far from the fluffy romance I thought I was going to get, but it was definitely as hot as I was hoping for – and more ??
