hello, lovelies!

Yesterday was the first day of fall. Isn’t that crazy?? I’ve been waiting for this for what seems like forever. Sweater-weather, falling leaves, all the bright, beautiful colors… I absolutely cannot wait for Autumn to hit us in full swing, so I can snuggle outside in an oversized sweatshirt and blanket, soaking in the beauty! It is my favorite season, you know. Maybe this will finally be the season where my TBR spontaneously… gets read?

Wait, why are you laughing?

I’ll wait.

Anyway.

I have a pretty great list of books to read this season, and I’m fairly optimistic about them! We’ll see! Onward!

1. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard Top Ten Tuesday Series I've Been Meaning to Start But Haven't on Cover to Cover book and Blogging blog by Kat Snark

Let me tell you. I’ve had a world of fun with #TheLuminaries on Twitter! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, the author @stdennard started a kind of choose-your-own-adventure story that’s been going on since the beginning of June. She posts a piece of a story and then gives us two or three options to choose from in a poll, and the readers decide where the story goes next. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, as we have died twice (it was an accident!) and#TeamThirsty is always voting against #TeamPractical even though we seem to have joined forces lately to discuss strategy and to not try to die a third and final time.

If anything, this has taught me not to judge my YA characters too harshly. We make stupid decisions, too. But my FAVORITE part has been the live reactions of the *audience* each day around noon when the polls go up. Ms. Dennard has been an amazing host and I’ve really enjoyed her on Twitter. Now I just need to read her books …

2. Sapphire Flames by Ilona Andrews

Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews is a book you’ve heard a lot of about on this blog ? I’ve mentioned it’s lead, Nevada Baylor, as one of the top eight kickass fictional female’s I’d name my daughter after, and as one of the fiercest females I’ve read in Urban Fantasy. It’s co-lead, Rogan, is featured just as much, especially as one of my favorite alpha males I’ve read. They’re both written so well, and I’ve read this book so many times. It’s my most reread book, for sure, as it’s in the upper-teens by now. This is the book I pick up whenever I can’t sleep, when I’m anxious, when I’m book slumping, or when I’m feeling any type of feeling.

This book is the most epic slow-burn ever, and Rogan and Nevada are the most perfect couple, mainly because they bicker and fight as much as they care for each other. It’s an epic mystery and the romance takes a teasing backseat, but it’s so fucking good! The duo holds the first three books in the series, and in this fourth book, we move on to a different character, teased in the novella Diamond Fire, that I am so excited for!!

3. Quiet Man by Kristen Ashley

 [ My Review ]

This is not a full-length novel, which is a bit of a disappointment as I feel like it’s been an age since I read a new Kristen Ashley book, but it’s a 256 page novella of Lottie, who is originally introduced as Jet’s sister in the Rock Chick series. This book is marketed as the culmination of what happens when you combine the amazing Dream Man series and the Rock Chick series. I love a commando romance, especially one with a little bit of mystery, as Lottie’s stalker will show. I absolutely cannot WAIT! (My Review)

4. Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews

The Innkeeper Chronicles is another amazing one by the amazing writing duo Ilona Andrews. They’re absolutely unmatched when it comes to writing powerful characters, and for this book, where the plot is not as intensive as some of their other books, that really shines. The first three books follow Dina and Sean, and this one, book four, follows the sister as she enters vampiric society. I would explain this book a bit more to you, but it sounds absolutely ridiculous, so I recommend you just start reading it. It’s a paranormal space book that’s done really well.

5. The Chase by Elle Kennedy

[ My Review ]

I have to admit, I love New Adult college romances. They’re always so promising! They just don’t always turn out. I’ve read several books written by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen, and loved them, but I haven’t gotten the chance yet to read their own books separately. College romances are hard, and I tend to either love them or hate them.

I’ve heard good things about this one, so hopefully I love it! (My Review)

6. Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Check out Goodreads | Shop on Amazon

I loved Strange, the Dreamer! I remember really getting pulled in by all the quotes and the information I saw about Lazlo Strange and his love for books. There were so many quotes about it and I was like AHHHHH Yes!  A character who loves book as much as Will Herondale and I! I don’t honestly remember a whole lot about the book, except various disjointed pieces of the plot and just the overall feeling of love and a tinge of confusion that I had for it (which is part of the overall wonderful experience and par for the course for a Ms. Taylor novel).

7. Beard Necessities (Winston Brothers #7) by Penny Reid

Check out Goodreads | Shop on Amazon

YOOOOO. I just read (last week) Beard with Me by Penny Reid, which is the origin story for Scarlett/Claire and Billy Winston. I already know their second-chance love story is going to be INTENSE because their origin story with their childhood was intense! It completely took my breath away and I was sobbing for Scarlett and all she had to endure. God, her life sucked! Yet… it was beautiful and precious there for awhile with Billy. I already know this is going to be one of my favorite second-chance romances, because the intensity of their connection and their story is already there.

8. The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

Check out Goodreads | Shop on Amazon

You know, I don’t know much about this one, admittedly. I love Renee Ahdieh’s sumptuous writing style from The Wrath and the Dawn, and I really hope she delivers on that promise!! Plus, it’s supposed to be a vampire story! Everyone’s all “Vampires are Back!” and I’m over here wondering when they left, because I still love vampires. A lot of my reader-friends were reading this, and from what they’ve told me and just general feedback I’ve seen, this is not a vampire story. It merely lives in a world where vampires exist, which is a tad disappointing. But I’m relieved that I know that, over wise I’d have spent the whole book waiting for the vampires to show up (like everyone else has). Nevertheless, I’m super pumped! I’m getting a lot of The Originals vibes from this – probably because it’s about the glitzy underbelly of New Orleans and it *has* (but doesn’t feature) vampires.

9. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

Check out Goodreads | Shop on Amazon

I love college books, and Ninth House makes a promise that I hope it can fulfill. The main character has a bit of a shady and horrifyingly traumatic past, and she’s offered a second chance to attend Yale University… with the task of monitoring the secret societies by her mysterious benefactor. I’m still waiting for a book about witches in college (PLEASE!!), but I’ll certainly take this one while we wait. I’m hearing that this one is a very atmospheric read with many content warnings, so this sounds like my kind of book about living and surviving. Let’s do it!

10. Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

Check out Goodreads | Shop on Amazon

This is the book I’ve been anticipating ever since 2016 when I first read The Raven Boys (I think I have that date right). If you’ve read The Raven Boys, you know all about the gang: Gansey, Noah, Blue, Adam Parrish, and Ronan Lynch. This series is all about Ronan Lynch and his strange ability!!! !!! !!! This is it guys!! This is where Pynch finally becomes a thing ?✨ Ronan was always my very favorite character of The Raven Boys series, and I cannot wait. Ms. Stiefvater’s writing in that series was a dream, and I really can’t wait to be there again! (And isn’t the paperback version glorious???)

What are some of the books you’re looking forward to this season? What are some of your favorite spooky/paranormal/mystery reads? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!

I want to read The Beautiful as well even though I haven’t read anything by Renee yet and vampires aren’t my thing. But that cover looks great! :)

  2. I’ve read or pre-ordered half of these! I read Truthwitch this summer (she got me to read her after I enjoyed reading her writing tips) and Muse of Nightmares was good too. I hope you like these.

  3. I’m stoked for sweater weather and falling leaves! Muse of Nightmares is on my list too. I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet, because I died with the end of Strange the Dreamer ? I didn’t put The Beautiful or Ninth House on my list, even though I really want to read them! I hope Ahdieh makes me fall in love with vampire stories again (especially since it takes place in New Orleans!)
