Love Letters Valentine's Day 2018 Francesca Zappia Eliza and Her Monsters Owlcrate Wallace Eliza Fandom Webcomic Book Reading Cover to Cover Book and Blogging Blog by Kat Snark Nalini Singh Psy-Changeling Silver Silence giveaway Valentine's Day

Hello, Love Bugs

Love is in the air! Or depression! Depending on your romantic situation! Personally, with my dad out of town, I ate Mexican food with my mom, came home and cuddled with the gorgeous hunk from Nalini Singh’s newest Psy-Changeling release, Silver Silence, and then fell down the EllenTube/Kelly Clarkson Facebook Live Video Tunnel of Procrastination. I ate lots of chocolate and then I spent more time with the growly Valentin :)

You may remember that last year I put on a fantastic collection of Love Letters between characters ... and this year I’m doing it again! Unfortunately, due to the fact that I am currently injury-broken and the end of the year snuck up on me, I got my emails out late. Which is bad, because authors are extremely busy at the beginning of the year. Several authors were signed up to participate, and only one actually sent me their love letter as promised. But it’s from one of my very favorite books from last year (tied for first with Six of Crows and Strange the Dreamer) so I was super excited to receive this in my inbox!!

This is exclusive content yo, so I hope you enjoy it (and your Valentine’s Day) and don’t forget to stick around to the end for an amazing giveaway from Nalini Singh!!! Truly, I am jealous. Green eyes and all.

Her story is a phenomenon. Her life is a disaster.
In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, and friendless. Online, she’s LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of the wildly popular webcomic Monstrous Sea. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves the online one, and she has no desire to try.
Then Wallace Warland, Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfiction writer, transfers to her school. Wallace thinks Eliza is just another fan, and as he draws her out of her shell, she begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile.
But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s built—her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanity—begins to fall apart.

Eliza,

I told you I was going to write you a letter every Valentine’s Day, and here’s the first one. You thought I was joking, didn’t you? You should know better by now–I don’t joke about writing letters, and I DON’T joke about Valentine’s Day.

(Okay, I do sometimes joke about writing letters, after that first email last year, but NOT about Valentine’s Day.)

I know you don’t like talking about sappy emotional things in real-time, so I’m going to put it all in here, and you don’t have to respond to any of it, okay? You don’t even have to keep reading this if you don’t want to, you can skip to the end, there’s a TL;DR section. If you do decide to read the whole thing, remember before you start that I am a big guy and I have a lot of big, sappy emotions.

Okay. Ready?

When I read Monstrous Sea, before I knew you, I thought I understood something about the person writing it. Maybe something about the way you thought or felt, or what you were trying to do. I thought I understood the way you saw the world.

Then, after everything happened last spring, I realized I was wrong. You’re so much more than a comic. You’re a real human person, so of course, you have to be more than a comic, but with everything we’ve been through, and all the little specific things I know about you now, you are Eliza to me, and you can only ever be that. Just you. Yourself. However you change, whoever you want to be. All of it.

I like when you come to visit me on campus, and you hug me like you haven’t seen me on the computer every other night that week, and you wear my sweatshirts when we go get Saturday morning waffles in the dining hall.

I like how you try to eat the whites of your hardboiled eggs without biting into the yolk.

I like warming up your hands because they’re always cold. How are your hands ALWAYS cold, even in the summer?

I like hearing you laugh. Really laugh. It sounds like it comes from so deep inside you, and it’s so unrestrained and full. Sometimes I don’t think fear or sadness could touch you when you laugh like that.

I like all the pictures you send me of Church and Sully because even though you keep saying they’re annoying, you aren’t trying at all to hide how much you love them.

I like so many things, I can’t list them all. I just hope you can see how much I’m reigning myself in with my words here. I don’t want to say something so much it loses its effectiveness. A lot has happened in the last year and a half, and life has changed so much. It’s going to keep changing, and we’ll keep changing, and for the first time in a long time, I’m excited about that.

I don’t mean to make this relationship feel lopsided, but I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you for everything you’ve given me. Acceptance. Courage. Safety. A second chance. I work hard every day to be the best version of myself I can be, and I hope that’s enough.

Did you make it through the whole letter? In case you skimmed or just skipped over that middle section completely, here’s the short version:

I love you.

Wallace

Nalini Singh wants to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Nalini Singh, the author of the amazing Psy-changeling, Rock Kiss, and Guild Hunter series, is slammed with writing. Yeah, and we don’t want her to get behind, do we? ?

So instead, she wants to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day by giving away a copy of Silver Silence! OMG you guys, I’m so jealous right now I can hardly stand it :)) It was a complete coincidence that I happen to be reading that exact book right now and it is AMAZING!! Except mine will not be signed because I didn’t enter a really awesome giveaway and mine is not the gorgeous hardcover because this bookaholic is broke yah year? I’m a mass-marketing it up like the kind of saving-for-college girl I am.

This is how the giveaway works…

  1. Comment below in order to participate
  2. Open internationally until March 1st when the giveaway ends
  3. Winner will not be announced on Twitter and Instagram March 1st at 4pm (@kateadreamer on both accounts), but follow me anyway #selfpromo
  4. I will send an email to the winner, and if I do not receive a reply within 24 hours (by March 2nd at 4pm) another winner will be chosen.
  5. Comments will be chosen randomly (I will print them out, cut them up, put them in a jar and pick one)
  6. For a comment to quality, it must be a thoughtful one. “Comment” or “Great post” comments do not qualify. Put some effort in, people!
  7. If you’re not interested in receiving a copy of Silver Silence  (which I totally recommend reading, even though I’m only about 2/3 of the way through), and still wish to comment, do so with an *, and I’ll know you’re not interested

Thank you to both of the participating authors! I worship you both :)) What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with love from some of your favorite characters! Have a very happy Valentine’s Day and good luck in the giveaway!
